StandWatch exists so no one in the military community faces a money decision uninformed or alone. We stand watch on the numbers, explain the fine print plainly, and put free tools in your hands. The goal is simple: leave here more confident and more competent with your money than when you arrived.

A combat veteran who's spent a career helping people.
My name is Larry Cannon: former active-duty infantryman, two deployments, and more than twenty years in service of the government and the military community.
After active duty in the Army, I went into finance. From 2007 to 2009, I spent time on the phones at a large mutual fund firm, listening in real time as people lost everything after the 2008 collapse. Retirees who had been oversold into "safe" high-income and muni bond funds were quietly being handed back their own capital every month, which hid the fact that yields and values were dying and not coming back. Every day I heard from people watching decades of savings evaporate slowly and then all at once, with no real understanding of what was happening until it was over. All I could do was listen. I could not change the outcome for a single one of them.
Two years of that took enough out of me that I walked away from finance for a while. I went back to school, then spent the next four years doing mental health and suicide prevention outreach for fellow combat veterans with the VA. It was heavier subject matter, and easier work, because I could do something there. Those years rewired how I think about money and about people going through hard times. The people on those calls did not need someone to explain what happened after the crash. They needed someone before it.
The infantry teaches you something early that never leaves you: you look out for the people next to you, and nobody walks alone. I've carried that ever since, and it's the standard this site is held to: help people before the crisis, not after. When the crisis comes anyway, the answer here is open arms and zero judgment. You'll find help, not a lecture.
StandWatch applies that idea to money: help someone understand the refinance, the renewal, or the savings rate before it costs them. It's independent, built and funded on my own, and no one can pay to change what it tells you. If you ever spot something wrong or out of date, please tell me, and I'll fix it.
